110 Mln. Birr Owning Cooperatives Reorganized

ALEMAYA, Dec. 17 (WIC) – One thousand and seven-hundred and forty eight cooperative associations in Oromia owning a combined capital of over 110 million Birr have organized themselves in a new way and launched various agricultural activities.  According to the head of marketing and credit department of the cooperative development bureau of Oromia, Ato Dufera Moti, the associations have a total of over two million members.

Speaking at a ceremony held in Alemaya town to establish the union of farmers' cooperatives of East Hararghie zone, Ato Dufera said the cooperatives are engaging in various activities including coffee and hides and skins businesses, meat and milk production, fishery development, irrigation development as well credit and saving enterprises.

Ato Dufera said the zonal administration, the zonal agricultural department and the Alemaya University of Agriculture have pledged to provide every needed assistance including consultancy and marketing services for these cooperatives.
