ADDIS ABABA (ENA) - Ethiopia and Kenya could forge cooperation in various spheres in the economic sector to further consolidate existing bilateral relations, Kenyan Foreign Minister said yesterday.
Foreign Minister Bonaya Godana, chairman of the IGAD ministerial meet on Sudan peace talks told ENA that the two countries are engaged in activities that would help widen their economic and trade ties.
The joint efforts to upgrade the Addis Ababa-Nairobi route will lay the foundation for future economic cooperation, the minister said.
Kenya, he said, is making unstinted efforts to contribute to upgrade part of the highway stretching between Nairobi and Moyale.
Mr. Godana said, Ethiopia, apart from undertaking construction work of the roads on its side along the route to Moyale, has contributed a great deal in securing the fund needed for the purpose from international organizations.
The Kenyan Foreign Minister said there is a possibility for Ethiopia to use the port of Mombassa after a survey on the capacity of the roads leading to Ethiopia and the fulfillment of the necessary conditions at the port.
He also mentioned the engagement in various businesses of Ethiopians in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, and joint ventures by entrepreneurs of both countries in Ethiopia. |
