UNCDF is a multilateral donor agency under the administration of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It works to reduce poverty in least developed countries (LDCs) through supporting government efforts to decentralize administrative control of public planning and delivery and the strengthening local government capacity to take on that responsibility. The Fund also promotes the sustainable use of natural resources through its local development projects and works to create mechanisms for the provision of credit to the poor.
