1. The core philosophy of the University is Community Based and Problem Oriented education.
2. Multi-disciplinary training.
3. Integrated training, service, and research.
Community-Based Education is a comprehensive approach for ensuring competency of professionals to perform tasks relevant to needs at the individual, family and community level. It consists of learning activities that use the community extensively as a learning environment, in which not only students but also teachers, members of the community, and representatives of other sectors are actively engaged through out the educational experience. The programme is of clear benefit to both the students and the community.
Underlying Principles of CBE
1. Student activities are related to planned educational goals and objectives. The activities are introduced very early in the educational programme and continue through out the educational process.
2. The activities are viewed not as a peripheral or casual experience but as standard, integral and continuing educational process.
3. The student's work during training is a "real work" that is related to their educational needs and also forming part of the requirement for obtaining a degree and/or diploma.
Strategies of CBE at JU
The strategies of implementing CBE at JU are designed on three main programmes, which are expected to take 20% of the allotted time of the overall curricula.
1. Community based Training Programme (CBTP)
2. Team Training programme (TTP)
3. Community based Operational Student Research
|
The CBTP is an integrated institutional programme, which runs in phases from first year to graduation along with an in-built regular follow-up programme. Each phase has specifically defined education objectives. During each phase, students as a group (10-12) are assigned to urban, semi-urban or rural communities with an approximate population of 600-10,000.
Programme Objectives
