ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
1. OBJECTIVES AND EDUCATIONAL PRINCIPLES
A. OBJECTIVES :
To produce competent, compassionate and community oriented health and allied
personnel in congruent with man
power needs of the country.
To carry
out relevant basic and applied researches for the advancement of knowledge
and improvement of the health care system
of the country.
To disseminate
knowledge essential for the improvement of the health care system and
health professionals training in the
country.
To provide essential
health care services of highest quality for the regional population
curative, preventive, and laboratory
services, and specialised health care for referred
and needy patients.
To serve as a base
for continuing medical education of health professionals
to keep
them abreast with scientific advances,
and to assure life long competence of the health
workforce.
B. EDUCATIONAL PRINCIPLES
Training health professionals in RURAL
and URBAN teaching and service settings so that
the graduates acquire knowledge and skills relevant
to the needs of the community and
practice setting.
Providing curricula and
teaching programmes that are COMMUNITY ORIENTED that
enable a graduate to identify health problems of the community
and to improve the patterns
of health care. Training different health professionals
together as a TEAM to establish and
Enhance the ethos of teamwork, early professional socialisation,
and respect for colleagues.
Implementing HORIZONTAL and
VERTICAL INTEGRATION of biomedical, social and
behavioural sciences with clinical medicine and community health
to produce a multi science
based, and competent health professionals.
Involving students in planning and
evaluating the teaching program, fostering students
development of an appropriate attitude to
learning by direct students participation in
teaching through PROBLEM BASED APPROACH, and
cultivating the exploration of
knowledge by involving them in RESEARCH.
Ensuring life long
competence of professionals through provision of "CONTINUING
PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION and TRAINING" to practising
graduates.
