Comes out Victorious on Diplomatic Front: Scholar
Addis Ababa, June 24 (ENA)--The cessation of hostilities pact signed
between Ethiopia and Eritrea confirms the political and diplomatic victory of
Ethiopia and complies with the country’s national interests, says a high
profile scholar.
Professor Andrias Eshete said here on Saturday, the agreement empowered
Ethiopia, the undisputed victor on the military front, to control Eritrean high
grounds to defend itself from any provocation.
The law lecturer at the Addis Ababa University said the signing of
the pact brings big victory to Ethiopia , adding that the agreement recognizes
Ethiopia’s right of free military movement along
the border.
Professor Andrias said the establishment of a 25-kilometer buffer zone
inside Eritrean territory gives security guarantee to Ethiopia.
He said, it was in line with Ethiopia’s interests that the agreement
sanctioned Ethiopia to remain where it had made military advances in Eritrea
until the deployment of a un peace keeping mission .
He said Eritrea was once again vanquished on the diplomatic front
following the signing of the agreement after Ethiopia had secured its
sovereignty and territorial integrity by launching a swift military offensive
against the invading enemy troops.
Asmara is spending its Entire
meager resources on building its defense capacity aimed at invading neighboring
countries, he said, adding this trend of the hawkish regime should be stopped
once and for all.
The Ethiopian government added honor and grace to the nation as it
relentlessly stood for a peaceful resolution of the conflict besides its
commendable leadership in reversing the unprovoked aggression, he said.
