Bank Announces Implementation Guidance On Use of Credit Cards, Traveveler's Cheque
Addis Ababa, July 30(ENA)-- The National Bank of Ethiopia announced that it has put into practice the improved guidance enabling to implement the use of credit cards, foreign currency and traveler's cheque for transaction.
In a statement it issued here on Wednesday, the bank said the guidance would enable governmental and private business firms to receive service charges through credit cards and traveler's cheque as well as expanding the use of credit cards.
Accordingly, the bank said those business firms who would fulfill the criteria set by the bank could charge foreign tourists and guests through credit cards, foreign currency notes and traveler's cheque.
Hotels hosting foreign tourists and guests, immigration offices with airport terminals, the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, Ethiopian Airline's Ticket Sales Offices and duty free shops would be allowed to charge for their services in credit cards, traveler's cheques and foreign currency notes.
US Dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen and Britain's Pound as well as other internationally convertible currencies are allowed to be used as credit cards and traveler's cheque.
