Office siezes over 23.7 mln Birr contraband goods

Addis Ababa, July 30(ENA)-- Contraband goods valued at over 23.7 million Birr were seized in the just-ended Ethiopian budget year, the Eastern Ethiopia Customs Office said.

Office Acting Head, Tibebu Belay told ENA on Tuesday that the goods were intercepted through the coordinated control of branch offices and other organizations.

Tibebu said the contraband goods included electronic equipment, used and ready made clothes, cigarettes and cosmotics, among others.

Meanwhile, the office had secured over 53 million Birr revenue from tax, excise and sale of contraband goods, Tibebu said.

He said the amount collected during the reported period was less thanb that of the target by 12 million Birr.
