Media Seminar on upcoming Mexico WTO meet held in Brussels

Addis Ababa July 17(ENA)--A media seminar with the objective of sensitizing journalists about the forthcoming Mexico World Trade Organization meeting was held in Brussels, Belgium.

Journalists from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Senegal and Mauritania attend the Seminar representing the African continent.

The Ethiopian News Agency Reporter who attended the seminar held since Monday said various issues to be raised in the Cancun WTO meeting were discussed.

The Cancun conference is expected to bring developed and developing nations together and look into the challenges developing nations are facing in global trade, the ENA journalist reported from Brussels.

Developing nations especially those in Africa want to see continued negotiations, rather than the beginning of negotiations for new agreements on the Singapore issues.

WTO Commissioner Pascal Lamy told the seminar that the organization will provide support for developing countries in transport, finance and telecommunications.

Developing countries need to reform their institutions pertaining to customs and trade, the Commissioner said.

African Ministers of Trade are expected to come with a common stand during the September WTO meet.
