WHO lifts travels' suspension as SARS put under control
Addis Ababa, July 15(ENA)-- The World Health Organization has lifted suspension on travels to countries affected by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
The Ministry of Health told ENA on Tuesday that the travel suspension due to SARS was lifted after WHO verified that the disease has been put under control.
The Ministry quoted WHO as saying however that travelers to the countries in question need to take the necessary precautions against any possible SARS infection.
The Ministry thanked those individuals who had cancelled their travels to the countries affected by SARS.
It said individuals coming from the countries in question and who suspected any symptom related to SARS need to contact the health centers designated for the purpose of providing therapeutic treatment or counselling.
According to the Ministry, no substantive proof as to the cause of the disease has so far been identified.
SARS has claimed 812 lives. SARS is thought to have originated in southern China, where the first known cases began appearing last November
.WHO has declared the SARS virus outbreak contained around the world after removing Taiwan, the last region on its list of affected areas on Saturday.
