Addis Ababa, July 15(ENA)--A team from the Cultural Heritage Ethiopia says 15 million Euro was needed to renovate the Menelik II palace in Addis Ababa and the Yohannes IV palace in Mekele town.

The team consisting of Prof. Dr. Horst Seidler and Prof. Dr. Manfred Wehdron of the University of Vienna has carried out the study on the feasibility of the renovation of the cultural sites for a year.

The project was initiated by the scholars in collaboration with the Ethiopian Embassy in Vienna and the Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture.

The team said to preserve the historical sites for posterity and maintaining their historic features as world heritage would be an urgency.

Accordingly, 12 million Euro would be needed to maintain the Menelik II Palace while 3 million Euros for the Yohannes IV Palace.

The Austrian government has expended 120,000 Euro for the study on the current status of the palaces and on the basis of their renovation, among others.

The Menelik Palace was constructed in 1887 with a predominantly African style in architectural design while the Yohannes Palace, constructed during his reign from 1872 and 1889, is European in its architectural structure .

The team handed over the Project documents to General Manager of the Authority for Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage, Jara Hailmariam and Palace Administration Deputy Administrator Bezabih Gebresillassie.
