Eritrea’s chief justice accuses Issaias’s office of interfering

Addis Ababa , July 30 (ENA)--Eritrea’s chief justice of Supreme Court, Teame, lambasted the president’s office for intruding into the affairs of the court, according to a report posted on the Internet.

In a speech acknowledging the weaknesses of the court justice Teame provided three explanations for the court’s failure to meet its objectives.

He said lack of trained personnel, support from Eritrea’s intelligentsia and inappropriate intrusion by the president’s office, which has been acting as the legislative, executive and judicial body as the major shortcomings that jeopardized the independence of the court.

According to sources, his speech was enthusiastically applauded by the attendants of a conference of Eritrean scholars, academics and politicians held in Asmara.
