Somali faction leader blames Eritrea for supplying weapons to Somalia

Addis Ababa, June 7 (ENA)--Osman Hassan Ali "Atto" of Somalia on Saturday accused the Eritrean government of supplying weapons to Somali’s Transitional National Government (TNG) in a bid to fuel hostilities there, AFP said.

"Eritrea is supplying an assortment of weapons that would ignite renewed bloodshed in Somalia, and this has already hampered efforts for reconciliation" Atto told AFP.

Atto accused Eritrea of continuing to remain a troublemaker in Somalia by ignoring UN Security Council resolution 733 of 1992,which placed an embargo on the supply of weapons to the war-devastated horn of African nation.

The local Mogadishu newspaper, Banadir, reported on Saturday that consignment of weapons from Eritrea had arrived at Ballidogle airport, south west of Mogadishu.

Quoting witnesses, the paper said the weapons were later taken to Mogadishu in dozens of armed wagons.

According to Atto, Eritrea has been involved in Somalia’s internal politics since Asmara went to war with Ethiopia in May 1998.
