Farmers
in Hadiya zone resume paying land tax
Hossana
July 4(ENA)--Farmers in two woredas of Hadiya zone, South Ethiopian Peoples'
State, have resumed paying land tax, which they disrupted for a year due to the
malicious propaganda of some political parties, the zonal finance department
said.
Department
head, Degole Irgano, told ENA recently that certain political organizations had
influenced the farmers in Soro and Badwacho woredas not to pay land tax that was
required of them.
Failure
of the farmers not to pay taxes on time had had a negative impact on the salary
payment to civil servants in the localities, Degole said.
He
said the farmers have paid 1.7 million of the over 2.5 million Birr arrears
since mid of last May.
