Direct telephone linking Ethiopia, Sudan goes operational

Addis Ababa, January 30(ENA)-- The Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation said a direct telephone link between Ethiopia and the Sudan went into operation.

Authority Public Relations Deputy Manager, Abdurahim Ahmed told ENA on Thursday that the two countries had agreed to establish the telephone links two years ago.

The line was installed from Gondar to Gedarif, he said.

Each country has covered the cost for the installation of the line within their respective territories, Abdurahim said.

Accordingly, he said, Ethiopia had spent 19 million Birr on the installation of the line.

The establishment of the links would enable the two nations to tackle telephone communication barriers that used exist in the past he said.

It would also help the two countries to enable to work in cooperation in various sectors of development.

The installation of the line is believed to be instrumental in speeding up the flow of investment in each other's countries, according to Abdurahim.
