Meles Appoints Mayor, Vice Mayor of Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, Jan.23 (ENA)--Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has appointed mayor and deputy mayor of the Addis Ababa City Provisional Administration.

Office of the Prime Minister told ENA on Thursday that Meles conferred the appointment in line with the Addis Ababa City Charter Proclamation, which says that there would be a transitional period when the current administration would be replaced by a provisional one.

Accordingly, Arkebe Equbay and Helawe Yosef were appointed as mayor and vice mayor of the provisional administration respectively, the office said.

In addition, it said, Ali Siraj, Teklebrehan Areaya, Direba Tura, Genet Abera, Dr. Zerihun Kebede, Dr. Eyob Kamel and Woldetensay Woldeamlak were named cabinet members of the provisional administration.

Meanwhile, the outgoing Addis Ababa City Administration will hand over its power to the provisional administration on Friday.
