Ethiopian Ambassador presents credentials to Turkish President
Addis Ababa, Feb. 18(ENA)--The Rome-based Ethiopian Ambassador to Turkey, Dr. Mengistu Huluka presented his letter of credence to the Turkish President, Ahmet Sczer, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
President Sczer said on the occasion that Turkey was desirous to consolidate its historical relations with Ethiopia which dates back to the 16th century, the Ministry quoted the Ethiopian Embassy in Rome as saying.
According to the Ministry's statement sent to ENA on Tuesday, the President stressed the need for the establishment of a joint forum that would enable to further bolster the existing economic cooperation between the two countries.
The strengthening of the Ethio-Turkish Economic Commission and the establishment of a joint trade council would be instrumental in promoting the economic cooperation between the two countries to a new height, he said.
President Sczer also expressed his country's readiness to share its experiences, technology and expertise of utilizing water resources with Ethiopia.
The President said the two countries should enhance their cooperation in the global initiatives to fight terrorism.
Ethiopia deserved to be the seat of the African Union (AU), he said, adding that the Turkish government would support the country's efforts of creating an enabling environment for the smooth functioning of the continental body.
Ambassador Mengistu on his part told the President that Ethiopia has embarked on an agricultural centered development strategy aimed at bringing about swift economic development and reducing poverty.
Ambassador Mengistu also said there are immense opportunities for Turkish entrepreneurs who would like to avail themselves of the enabling investment environment in Ethiopia.
The ambassador also presented President Girma Wolde-Giorgis's letter to President Sczer.
