TPLF calls for enhanced efforts to avert drought, speed up democratization (corrected version)
Addis Ababa, Feb. 18(ENA)--The Tigray Peoples' Liberation Front (TPLF) has called upon the Tigrean People to press ahead with efforts launched to overcome drought as well as to accelerate the democratization process.
A statement the front's central committee office issued in connection with TPLF 28th founding anniversary to be celebrated on Tuesday said members, the people in the State as well as partner organizations should exert concerted efforts to ensure food security in the State.
Participatory water harvesting activities were launched to tackle recurrent food shortage, it said, and urged members of the Front to support the initiatives.
The danger of disintegration the front faced two years ago was resolved through decisive measures, the statement recalled.
This year's anniversary would be observed with renewed commitment to maximize efforts aimed at realizing sustainable economic development and food security, it said.
TPLF had undergone successful activities of reorganizing its leadership and popularizing its goals as part of its renewal process, the statement said, adding it has continued activities aimed at deepening democracy and ensuring good governance.
It said the Front has done its level best in mobilizing national and international resources to avert the current food crisis before it goes out of control.
TPLF has once again called upon the Tigrean people to maximize their assistance to drought victims and exert utmost efforts for the realization of the large-scale food security programs.
