Second AU Executive Council Extra-Ordinary Session Concludes, Adopts Agenda
Addis Ababa, February 01 (ENA)-- The Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union concluded its deliberations late on Saturday endorsing the agenda that would be discussed in the First Extra-Ordinary Summit of the Assembly of the African Union.
Ambassador Konjit Sine-Giorgis told journalists late Saturday that the session has adopted the report presented by the ad hoc Ministerial Committee concerning amendments on the Constitutive Act of the Union.
The proposed amendments included the powers and office tenure of the chairperson of the Assembly as well as the issue of encouraging the participation of the African Diaspora in the continent’s development endeavor, among others, she said.
The First Extraordinary Summit of the Assembly of the African Union due to convene on Monday is expected to approve the proposed amendments on the Constitutive Act of the Union.
The Summit may also consider conflict situations, particularly in Cote d Ivoire, Central African Republic, and the Great Lakes Region, she said.
