AU member states urged to sign protocols
Addis Ababa, February 01(ENA)-- Member states of the African Union (AU) that have not ratified the protocols establishing the pan African parliament and the peace and Security Council urged to do so at the earliest convenience.
Addressing the second extra- ordinary session of the executive council that opened here on Saturday, chairperson of the executive council Dr. Ncdlamini Zuma said the signing of the documents could enable to consider further steps aimed at strengthening the continental organization.
Dr. Zuma also told participants of the second extra- ordinary session to consider the recommendations of the permanent representatives on the modalities for the election of the commissioners.
She said" this opportunity should also be used to remind ourselves of the need to act speedily on those outstanding issues that have an impact on the early operationalisation of the African Union and its efficient functioning."
The first extra ordinary session was held in Tripoli, Libya in December 2002 to consider the amendments to the constitutive act proposed by six members stets.
