Region Dec. 20(ENA)--More than 202,000 Birr has been raised by civil servants in six zones of the Arsi zone, Oromia state, in support of citizens affected by the drought-induced food shortage.

The workers made the pledge after they held discussions on the current emergency situation in the country, according to the zonal disaster prevention and preparedness desk.

Desk head Nigussie Worku said on Thursday that the civil servants pledged to contribute funds rainging from 5 to 50 percent of their one-month salary.

Similarly, teachers, cabinet members and civil servants of Chilga Woreda of North Gondar Zone have pledged to contribute 18,583 Birr for the same cause.

The Nekemt Teachers' College community have also decided to donate 10 percent of their salary, totalling 78,496 Birr.
