UK announces further 5 million Pounds humanitarian aid to Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, Dec. 4(ENA)--The UK Department for International Development on Wednesday announced a further 5 million Pounds (approximately 66,500,000 Birr) relief to meet humanitarian needs in Ethiopia.

A British Embassy Press release sent to ENA quoted Sally Keeble, International Development Minister as saying during a House of Commons Ethiopia Drought Adjournment Debate that the current situation in Ethiopia was a matter of deep concern.

"We are responding to all the crises in Africa. But no one donor can do everything everywhere. We target our humanitarian resources on immediate lifesaving choices. We have been providing support and monitoring developments in Ethiopia since the beginning of the year," she said.

"We will continue to play our part while at the same time focusing on a long term partnership to help tackle the poverty which makes 4 million people dependent on food aid every year in Ethiopia."
