European Commission funds reintegration project for Ethiopians displaced from Eritrea
Addis Ababa, Dec. 3(ENA)--The European Union (EU) Member States approved on 28 November 6.67 million Euros of support project to assist the socio-economic reintegration of Ethiopians displaced from Eritrea following the Ethio-Eritrea conflict.
The project which will be implemented over a period of three years will support displaced populations and host communities in Amhara and Afar states, a press release issued by the Delegation of the European Commission to Ethiopia said.
Activities of the support project include the construction or rehabilitation of 1,000 low-cost houses, the provision of key social and physical infrastructure, training of people in construction technology and in maintenance of housing and infrastructure, the provision of skill development in marketable skill and assistance in entrepreneurial development.
The provision of social assistance (food, health care, HIV/AIDS awareness) to selected vulnerable groups and strengthening stakeholder organizations including local governments in dealing with large refugee populations are also project components, according to the release.
The project will be implemented by GTZ and ZOA Refugee Care, "the two most experienced non-governmental organizations in reintegration issues operating in Ethiopia", it said.
