Association undertaking over 44 Mln. Birr HIV/AIDS, RH activities

Addis Ababa, Dec. 01(ENA)--The Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia (FGAE) says it is currently undertaking Reproductive Health (RH), Family planning and HIV/AIDS activities at a cost of over 44 million Birr across the nation.

Association General manager, Amare Bedada told ENA on Sunday that 34.6 million of the stated sum was secured from the Royal Netherlands Trust Fund.

Amare said the fund would be used for strengthening the association's programs, capacity building and modernization, among others.

The association has been undertaking HIV/AIDS prevention activities with over 7.5 million birr secured from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and other donor agencies and a 250,000 US dollar from Packard foundation for the activities of its clinics in Gondar and Desse towns, he said.

Amare lauded the government and donor agencies for their unreserved support to the association's effort geared towards expanding family planning services through out Ethiopia.

Currently the association has been running 18 clinics, 24 youth centers, 186 out reach stations, 11 market and workplace programs in its seven branches, he said, and providing family planning service in 654 Farmers' associations across the nation.

Amare said HIV/AIDS testing and counseling services are being given in 11 clinics of the association.

The association, which focuses on youth activities, established 24 libraries in its branch offices, he said.
