EPRDF council evaluates activities undertaken in capacity building sector, approves executive committee report

Addis Ababa, Dec. 30(ENA)--The on going EPRDF council meeting in its session on Sunday has evaluated and approved the activities being undertaken in the capacity building sector, office of the Front said.

In a statement the Front sent to ENA on Sunday said the council has also endorsed a report presented by the executive committee and thoroughly discussed on the various activities executed by the government.

It said capacity building being a key issue in the nation building process, constructive measures have been taken to strengthen the sector.

Implementing the education and training plans, as well as the civil service reform program and the taxation system would be given paramount importance during the budget year, among others, it said.

The training being offered particularly in the agriculture sector and other vocational fields was believed to be instrumental in producing the much-needed skilled manpower, the statement said.

The council has also confirmed the vocational training in agriculture, which it said could be a catalyst to speed up the implementation of the agricultural development program was well underway.

The council has also evaluated the measures taken to implement the civil service reform program during the previous years and concluded that the efforts exerted have failed to produce the desired results.

Attempts have been made to implement the civil service program in isolation without the participation of the regional states, it said.

The council, however, said such trends could be an obstacle to the efforts exerted to improve the civil service development and the measures taken to ensure the benefits of the public and decided to make fundamental changes with this regard, it said.

The council has also decided that the civil service program should be implemented in coordination and with the full participation of the regional states.

The statement said the council members have accepted the report of the executive committee after an in-depth discussion and with some amendments.
