EPRDF Begins 2nd Regular Conference, Assesses Quarterly Performance as Successful

Addis Ababa, Dec.28 (ENA)--The executive committee of the Ethiopian Peoples' Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has begun its 2nd regular conference, office of the front announced.

The office told ENA on Thursday that the committee is expected to dwell on appraisals of the activities carried out in the past four months and decide on future activities.

Accordingly, the first session of the two-day conference on Thursday said the Front and member organizations have carried out intensified and successful activities in inculcating the spirit of the reform measures in the minds of the people in line with the resolution passed by the EPRDF general conference.

Cognizant of the vitality to hold on clear democratic principles and to keep in course both the development programs and democratic system, the front has bitterly fought against dependency  and egoistic tendencies, the office said.

The committee affirmed that the necessary measures have been taken after the weak and strong points of every member had been carefully evaluated.

The office said it was clearly understood that the undemocratic and corrupt practices as well as chauvinistic and parochial views reflected in the past had tarnished the image, principles and objectives of the EPRDF.

It said, based on the resolution, every national organization had undergone readjustment in addition to the new job placements.

The public participation in the job placement activities has been encouraging as an initial move to reform administrations at all levels of the government structure.

The executive committee thus recognized the need to devise and enact additional mechanisms with a view to intensifying the public participation, according to the office.

The committee also affirmed that all the member organizations of the Front had carried out broad based activities aimed at institutionalizing the internal systems devised to maintain their democratic ideals.

The office said the directives being followed by the member organizations as guidelines have enabled to create a clear and accountable system of organizational structure.

The executive committee has also evaluated the activities carried out by the government, the office said, adding that the restructuring of the government executive bodies was carried out satisfactorily in the true spirit of reforming both at the federal and regional levels.

It said new organizational structures had been put into effect, which brought those separate organizations performing similar duties together in a bid to integrate their activities and augment their performances.

Every ministry had been empowered with a wide range of authority that enabled it to perform its activities independently, it said.

According to the committee’s appraisal, the jumbled structures of the executive and legislative bodies in the regions had also been reorganized separately for clear and better performances.

The committee equated the power sharing efforts carried out in the reported period with the devolution of political power as witnessed during the transitional period and to the significance and all-inclusive nature of it.
