UNESCO Director General to visit Ethiopia

Addis Ababa,Dec.28 (ENA)--Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Koichiro Matsuura is scheduled to visit Ethiopia from 6-9 January 2002 on the invitation of the Ethiopian Government.

According to a UNESCO press release sent to ENA on Thursday, the Director General would visit the UNESCO World Heritage sites in Lalibela, Axum and Gondar.

Minister of Education, Genet Zewdie, who is also a member of the UNESCO Executive Board, would accompany the Director General in his visit to the historical sites.

Matsuura was also scheduled to meet President Girma Wolde-Giorgis, Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and other ministers concerned with UNESCO activities, the release said.
