Ethiopia envisages earning 203.3 Mln. Birr from coffee export

Addis Ababa, Dec. 26(ENA)--The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority announced plans to obtain 203.3 million US dollars from the export of quality coffee during the current Ethiopian budget year.

Authority general manager, Tsegaye Birhane told ENA recently that Ethiopia had secured 58 million USD from coffee export during the last five months.

Ethiopia's coffee sale last year was 14 percent lower than the previous year, he said, adding the reduction was caused by the ever-falling coffee price across the globe.

Tsegaye said the authority was exerting utmost efforts to address the declining coffee price.

He said over supply of coffee to the international market during the last three years prompted coffee price slump worldwide.

The number of coffee producing countries in the world reached to 70 from 20 some twenty years ago, the general manager said.
