2000 voluntary resettlers to move to designated sites
Addis Ababa, April 23(ENA)--Preparations are nearing completion to move 2000 voluntary resettlers to designated sites, the zonal administration announced.
Residents living around the resettlement areas have built 1200 houses for the farmers to take up their new environments by the end of this month, Deputy administrator Mulugeta Fetene said on Thursday.
The voluntary resettlers are from drought prone Derashe and Konso special Woredas, Gamo Gofa zone and other areas in the State, he said.
More than 900 farmers, who resettled in Boreda and Dara Malo Woredas last month, have already started agricultural development activities through water harvesting endeavors, he indicated.
The voluntary resettlers had also been provided with agricultural implments, blankets and household utensils and a 21-km. dry weather road has been constructed to make living easier for the resettlers, he added.
Work on the construction of potable water units, health posts, warehouses and mills as well as river harnessing activities have got underway.
