IOM in collaboration with ETA organizes nation-wide school contest Saturday

Addis Ababa, April.23(ENA)--The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Addis Ababa announces to conduct a nation-wide school contest On Saturday involving 185 schools from all the State governments in Ethiopia in collaboration with the Ethiopian Teachers' Association (ETA).

IOM told ENA in a statement that students representing junior high and high schools will be answering questions on issues of human trafficking, HIV/AIDS and girls' education to win prizes, which will include funds to contribute towards tuition fees during the coming academic year and mini-media equipment for their schools.

The school contest is an integral part of the "Debterachin: Out Exercise Book" project launched in November 2002 by IOM Addis Ababa in partnership with the Women's Affairs Department at the Ministry of Education.

The statement said, the overall objective of the project is to support the Ethiopian Government's efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS, and the prevention of human trafficking within and/or from Ethiopia.

IOM in cooperation with ETA trained more than 350 teachers in junior high and high schools from all regional states at eleven selected sites on issues of trafficking, HIV/AIDS and girls' education as well as skills necessary for providing counseling to students on the reported subjects.

The school contest will be held in ten regional cities and the capital Addis Ababa and between 150-200 students are expected to attend the event at each of the sites, it said.
