Joint activities of government, NGOs said crucial to strengthen alternative education
Addis Ababa,Apr.22(ENA)--Governmental and Non -Governmental Organizations (NGOs) should work jointly to realize education for all by strengthening the basic alternative education program.
Speaking at a workshop organized in connection with the 2004 International Education Week here on Thursday, chairperson of the organizing committee Haile Semi said the the basic alternative education should be enhanced through close partnership between governmental bodies and NGOs.
The interventions of NGOs in the basic alternative education targeting pastoralist communities has so far been encouraging, he said.
Haile said the NGOs also need to stand by the government in the ongoing capacity building activities of the education sector development program.
He said encouraging activities have got underway in expanding schools across the nation as part of activities to attain the "Education for All by 2015" program.
He called for redoubled efforts to expand schools in the country so as to meet the ever increasing demand.
