Seyoum calls for further consolidation of ties between Ethiopia,Yemen

Sana'a August 31 (ENA)--The longstanding relationship between Ethiopia and Yemen should be further strengthened in various sectors of development for the benefit of the peoples of the two sisterly countries, Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin said.

The Minister, who is in Yemen for a two- day official visit, said during talks with the Yemeni President Ali Abdulla Salah, the Ethio-Yemeni relationship that has been always a family like should be revitalized in the trade, economy ,tourism and cultural sectors.

The two officials have underlined the need to exert utmost efforts to exploit the untapped natural resources available in the two countries.

Ethiopia has a sound investment code designed with a clear objective to attract the flow of foreign entrepreneurs, the Minister said.

Yemeni investors are encouraged to take part in the agro-development and service industry, he said, adding that the Ethiopian government was ready to positively respond to their requests.

The Ethiopian foreign minister and the Yemeni president have also exchanged views on the endless saga in Somalia.

The two officials have agreed to work in cooperation and consultation to bring about a lasting and durable peace to that war ravaged African country, according to an official with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who attended the discussion.

Minister seyoum and president Salah also discussed views about the region and the Red Sea to work in cooperation for peace and stability.

Seyoum has delivered on the occasiona message of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi to the Yemeni presidant that mainly focused on bilateral cooperation and issues of common concern.

Similarly, foreign minister Seyoum Mesfin met and held talks with speaker of the Yemeni parliament Abdla Bin Hussie Al-Ahmar.

The two sides have discussed ideas that could facilitate ways for the exchange of high level visits between the two countries.

They also indicated the need for cooperation and consultations as the two countries have a strategic position in the region.

The Ethio-yemeni tie, which is not only confined to government to government, also enjoys trust and confidence in the people-to-people relationship.

Upon arrival at the Sana' a International Airport, Foreign Minister Seyoum was welcomed by the Yemeni Minister of planning and development, Ahmed Mohammed Scof.
