Germany grants 2 million Birr for emergency measures in Afar

Addis Ababa, Aug. 11(ENA)--The government of the Federal Republic of Germany has provided a 2 million Birr grant for emergency measures in the drought hit area of Elidaar in the Afar region, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany here in Addis Ababa said.

The Embassy said in a press release that the support in the areas of veterinary health and water supply was designed to improve the condition of pastoralists' animals as well as to respond to the state of emergency in the provision of water.

The release said the German Agro Action together with the Afar Pastoralist Development Association (APDA), an NGO would run the humanitarian project.

The vaccination of 400,000 animals and the provision of additional water for 30,000 persons suffering from the severe impacts of the continuous drought were among the programs, which would be launched in the region shortly the release said.
