ANDM
Concludes Discussion, Passes Resolution
Bahir
dar, August 22 (ENA)--The Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) concluded
here on Tuesday a conference that assessed at length the movement's performance
over the past ten years and problems encountered.
Participants
of the conference said in a resolution that the movement could have done better
over the past ten years in addressing the basic needs of the people had there
been transparency and accountability.
The
statement indicated the participants' resolve to inculcate among the public the
reform measures underway in the country so that the general public would be well
aware of the significance of transparency and the dangers of degeneration posed
against the political system.
The
conference was instrumental in facilitating enabling grounds for future
socio-economic development endeavors, the statement said.
The
participants also vowed to work hard to instill among the people the principles
of revolutionary democracy.
The
participants recognized that anti-democratic trends had been witnessed during
the past ten years.
They
renewed commitments to build the new Ethiopia and to strengthen the movement's
democratic unity with affiliate organizations.
ANDM,
however, had not witnessed high-level corruption on a big-scale, they said,
adding some minor wrongdoings had been timely addressed.
The
participants have also resolved to coordinate the efforts of farmers, the elite
and entrepreneurs for development and economic growth.
More
than 1000 ANDM members had taken part at the 15-day conference.
