Japan, Four Indigenous NGOs Sign Over 314 USD Grant Agreement 

Addis Ababa, August 22 (ENA)--The Japanese Embassy and four indigenous NGOs signed grant contracts amounting to 314, 442 US Dollars here on Monday.

 Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Hiroyoshi Ihara said the grant goes to Center for Development Initiative (CDI), Health Aid Ethiopia (HAE) as well as Ratson and Gudina Tumsa Foundation (GTF) in a bid to assist the grassroots projects operating in the Oromia State and the Metropolis.  

Since its introduction in 1989, the grassroots grant scheme of the Embassy had supported 76 community-based projects worth 3.65 million US Dollars (30 million Birr), the Ambassador added.   

Development cooperation section head with the Embassy, Nishi Makoto, said the local NGOs were expected to work in the areas of, among others, agriculture, health and basic education. 

Representatives of the NGOs, on their part, vowed to make efficient and effective use of the grant to meet the intended objectives.
