ANDM
members vow to strongly fight chauvinism
Bahir Dar, August 20 (ENA)-- Participants of the on-going
conference of the Amhara Nationals Democratic Movement (ANDM) vow to strongly
fight chauvinism and narrow nationalism, which they said enfeeble people's unity
based on equality.
The participants said chauvinistic attitudes adversely affect
the efforts exerted to build a democratic system in the country.
Chauvinism should not be given the chance to slacken the solidarity of
the people who have full constitutional right to equally relish the boon of the
nation's economy, the participants said.
The participants said chauvinism was the manifestation of
dependency, which they labeled as another threat to the country's political
system.
Although ANDM has made encouraging efforts to promote
democracy over the past years, certain drawbacks were witnessed in pressing
ahead with transparent working systems, the participants indicated.
They said absence of a transparent working system in turn
hindered the effective execution of development activities in the region.
The conference unanimously expressed support to the peace
agreements that the Ethiopian government signed with Eritrea.
Participants of the conference said the agreements fully
ensured the interests as well as sovereignty and territorial integrity of
Ethiopia.
Office of ANDM said the conference has been constructive and
successful.
