ETC announces launching of International Roaming Service

Addis Ababa, April 30(ENA)-- The Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation (ETC) announces the launching of an International Mobile Roaming Service as of the 1st of May, 2003.

The Roaming Service enables users to make or receive calls with their mobile codes during travels outside the country, the Corporation's Public Relations Manager, Abdurahim Ahmed told a press conference here on Wednesday.

ETC had expended more than 3.4 million Birr on installation of gadgets and other related activities for the roaming service.

The Corporation had reached agreements with relevant companies in many African countries, he said, adding similar agreements are forthcoming with companies in North and South America, Europe and Asia.

ETC has issued a payment tariff for service subscribers who would come from abroad to Ethiopia and want to receive or make foreign calls, he indicated.

Meanwhile, Abdurahim said the Corporation has finalized preparations to launch mobile satellite service in partnership with Leocall.

ETC will also begin shortly a mobile Short Message Service.
