Ethiopia, Yemen Need To Strengthen Investment, Trade Relations

Addis Ababa, April 29(ENA)-- Ethiopia and Yemen were reportedly need to further consolidate their trade and investment relations in the years ahead.

This was disclosed in a meeting the Ethiopian embassy in San'a had held with Yemeni entrepreneurs including the Chairman of San'a Chamber of Commerce on April 15 this year.

During the meeting, the two sides expressed strong desire to bolster investment and trade relations with Ethiopia, a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The two parties are desirous to further strengthen the age-old Ethio-Yemen trade relations, the ministry quoted the Ethiopian Embassy in San'a as saying.

The Embassy said the meeting had also witnessed that though the two countries' trade relations have remained for longer period, the results achieved from the business ties were minimal.

The two nations had also reached consensus that contraband trade was a major stumbling block for the growth of their bilateral trade, the ministry said.

The determination of the respective governments were highly needed to avert the pitfalls for the development of the trade relations between the two countries.

The participation of 10 Yemeni companies in the recently held Addis Chamber International Trade Fair has won appreciation on the parts of the Ethiopian business community, the ministry said.

Members of the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce was due to pay an official visit to San'a next May.
