House Approves Four Bills, Appointment of General Secretary For Census Commission

Addis Ababa, April 29(ENA)-- The House of Peoples' Representatives approved four bills and the appointment of the General Secretary of the Office of Population Census Commission.

In its third year, 21st regular session held here on Tuesday, the council endorsed the bills and the appointment with unanimous vote.

The house has endorsed the food and agricultural plants genetic resources international agreement submitted to it after a thorough scrutiny by the rural development affairs standing committee.

The standing committee said in a recommendation that endorsing the agreement would enable Ethiopia to ensure its rights and benefits as it is endowed with vast genetic resources.

The house also adopted a proclamation on the prohibition of the preparation, production, storing and utilization of chemical weapons.

However, the proclamation would allow the country to utilize chemicals for development, research and agricultural and medical purposes.

The house has also endorsed the agreement providing for the establishment of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council and the protocols establishing the All African Parliament.

It also approved the appointment of Amare Isaias as the General Secretary of the Office of the Population Census Commission.
