Addis Ababa to host 24th African Health Science Congress

Addis Ababa, April 24(ENA)--The 24th African Health Science Congress is scheduled to be held here in Addis Ababa in September this year, the National Organizing Committee has announced. The Committee has made an appeal for financial and material support for the success of the congress.

Preparations have got underway by a national committee led by the Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute. Various governmental and international organizations are represented in the Committee.

A statement the Committee issued on Thursday said the congress is expected to see the participation of about 400 researchers and representatives of pertinent institutions. Senior officials, health professionals and representatives of international support organizations are also expected to attend the congress.

The international congress will focus on deliberations on health problems in the African Continent, according to the Committee.

The congress will concentrate attention in discussions specifically on HIV/AIDS, TB, Environmental Health and Malaria, among others.

Studies on traditional medicine, health and information as well as food and health issues will be presented at the congress.

The Committee said, success of the congress depends on the support of various international and local organizations. It called on governmental and non-governmental organizations to make contributions to cover the necessary expenses for participant scientists representing various countries.

The African Union has permitted its conference hall as a venue for the Congress, the Committee indicated.
