South Investment Office Calls Investors To Engage in Silk Production

Addis Ababa, April 23(ENA)-- The Investment Office of the South Ethiopia Peoples' State called up on investors and the farming community in the state to be engaged in silk production, which it said, has a good world market.

Investment Promotion and Policy Implementation Study Department Head, Mergia Bekele, said entrepreneurs and farmers would be successful if they engage in the sector as there are suitable weather and plants for raising silkworms necessary for the making of silk.

He was speaking to a daylong workshop aimed at familiarizing the product to the farmers and entrepreneurs that got underway in Awassa town on Tuesday.

Besides, he said, the sector doesn't require that much investment.

Mergia said investing in the sector would enable the country to secure the badly needed foreign currency while providing job opportunities to many people.

Participants of the workshop requested state owned financial institutions and state government to bring silkworms from abroad to enable them to start develop the sector.

Entrepreneurs and representatives of financials institutions from 13 zones attended the workshop.
