Authority Fails to Collect 477 Million Birr Customs Duty, Taxes,

Addis Ababa, April 21(ENA)-- The Ethiopian Customs Authority has failed to collect 477 million Birr in customs duty and various taxes as well as in services given to Private and government offices through letter of guarantee over the last three years, the Budgetary and Finance Standing Committee of the House of Peoples' Representatives said.

Efforts aimed at enabling collect the stated sum had already been launched, the committee said quoting a report submitted by the Auditor General.

This was disclosed in a three-day meeting that opened here on Monday organized for representatives of various governmental organizations to discuss the report.

The failure to collect the customs duty and taxes had an impact on the revenue of the government, the committee said.
