Federal Police to enter new phase with new organizational, structural reforms

Addis Ababa, April 18(ENA)--The Federal Police Commission says it has finalized the organizational and structural reform activities it has been undertaking over the last two years. It would mark a special police day on 15 May 2003.

Deputy Commissioner Hassen Shifa said May 15 would be a special day in the history of the federal police, as it would usher the launching of the new organizational and structure.

The inefficiency of the current regulations of the federal police commission has been creating difficulties in discharging its duties and responsibilities of ensuring law and order, he said.

Hassen said the reorganization and structural improvement initiatives would be instrumental in addressing the current problems surrounding the federal police as well as in maintaining peace and security.

Intensive evaluation activities have been carried out at all levels of the federal police and new placements were effected, he said, adding the reform would help ensure the rights of members and enhance the relations between the federal and regional police commissions.

The decoration of ranks to police officers which was suspended for a long time would also be effected with improved ways of promotion and different rank symbols, the deputy commissioner said.

Hassen said undertaking massive capacity building activities as well as the supply of adequate logistics and materials needed for crime prevention activities were also among the multi-faceted reform processes.
