Electric power tariff should address future financial requiments:EEPCo
Addis Ababa, April 14(ENA)-- The Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) said it has been conducting a tariff study project aimed at revsing the existing tariff.
Opening a three-day workshop here on Monday, EEPCo General manager Meheret Debebe said the tariff should be revised based on its future financial requirements.
Mehret said, "The new national power sector reform is one of the factors that necessitate the on-going tariff study project".
The Corporation has been implementing the existing tariff since 1998, he said, adding tariff study is in progress to adjust the present tariff.
The corporation aims at electrifying 164 rural towns in the five-year power Sector Development Plan, he said.
Referring to the power supply, Mehret said Gilgel Gibe, Tekeze and Gojjeb hydro electric power projects are some of the power stations, whose construction are in progress.
Scott Wilson Piesold and Power Planing Associates are jointly presenting the interim report the Tariff Study Project.
Some 60 participants drawn from the various pertinent organizations are in attendance at the workshop.
