Ethiopia, Sweden Sign One Billion Birr Grant Agreement

Addis Ababa, April 11(ENA)-- A daylong Ethio-Swedish Annual Bilateral Cooperation Meeting ended here on Friday with the signing of a one billion Birr grant agreement.

According to the agreement, the fund would be used to finance different programs/projects in the next three years (2003-2006).

The projects/programs to be implemented will include, among others, education, health, research cooperation, rural development in Amhara State, Infrastructure, democracy, good governance and food security.

The two sides had also agreed during the meeting to further strengthen existing cooperation with in the framework of Ethiopia's Sustainable Development and Poverty Reduction Program (SDPRP).

Accordingly, they agreed to focus their development cooperation on the development of democracy and respect of human rights, social development and economic growth.

Dr. Mulus Ketsela, State of Minister of Finance and Economic Development and Swedish Ambassador to Ethiopia, Hakan Akesson, signed the agreement.
