GOAL inaugurates street children project in Adama
Addis Ababa, April 3(ENA)-- GOAl, an Irish international relief and development agency, says it has earmarked close to 30 million Birr for emergency relief supply in the Afar and Oromia States.
GOAL-Ethiopia Assistant Country Director, Tigist Gelaye said the reported fund was allotted to supply supplementary food to an estimated 300,000 drought victims.
Tigist said the recipients are those who are faced with severe food shortage at areas of the Afar state as well as West Harerghe and Fentale zones of the Oromia state.
Tigist was speaking here on Thursday at the inauguration of the GOAL's project for the street and vulnerable children in the town of Adama.
According to the Assistant Director, the four-year project was initiated with an outlay of 3.5 for 1,000 target beneficiaries.
The organization earlier launched a similar program in Addis Ababa for the support and rehabilitation of 700 street children at a cost of 10 million Birr.
She said the organization has also been carrying out basic needs assistance for pastoralists in Fentale Woreda and integrated rural development program for Borena pastoralists, among others.
In attendance at the inauguration of the project were GOAL officials and staff, beneficiaries and relatives, local authorities and the guest of honor, a renowned radio broadcaster in Ireland Donnacha O'Dnalaing.
GOAL is an NGO working in more than 20 countries of the world.
