Girma says Ethiopia committed to avert environmental degradation

Addis Ababa, April 02(ENA)-- President Girma Wolde-Giorgis says the government of Ethiopia is exerting utmost efforts to prevent environmental degradation as part of the on-going endeavors deployed to address the recurrent food crisis in the country.

The President made the remarks here on Tuesday while conferring with director of the Uniliver Company, a multi-national Anglo-Dutch Company, Baroness-Lynda Chalker.

The government has also adopted viable development policies and strategies instrumental to ensure sustainable food security in the country.

Chalker, who was former British Minister of Overseas Development, told journalists after the discussion that her Company was interested in working in close collaboration with the Ethiopian government in the area of natural resources conservation with particular intervention in water harvesting activities.

She said her Company was looking for all sorts of products useful to hold more rainwater for home service and to increase food production.
