70 million Birr cartoon, paper factory goes operational

Addis Ababa, May 23(ENA)-- A factory built with an outlay of 70 million birr and producing packaging cartoon and paper by utilizing used papers as raw materials has become operational.

Manger of the factory Girma Zegeye said the factory by the name Barguba was built at the Kaliti Eastern Suburb of Addis Ababa and would also produce photo copy papers and toilet tissue.

He said the factory had the capacity to produce 18,000 packaging cartoons a day which would be important for the exporters of flower, vegetables and fruits.

Girma said the factory was unique in that it recycles used papers.

It also saves foreign currency by producing photocopy papers which the country has been importing, he said.

The manager said the government has provided encouraging support for the establishment of the factory as land was secured in lease in short period after application and machinery were imported free of tax.

Presently the factory has created job opportunity for 250 people.
