House Commends Population, Census Commission's Efforts
Addis Ababa, May 19(ENA)--The Budget and Finance Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Peoples Representatives said the activities made over the last nine months by the National Population and Census Commission with a limited resources were encouraging.
After hearing the 1996 E.C. performance report at the Office of the Commission here on Wednesday, the Committee said knowing the number of population the country has a significant importance in its efforts towards reducing poverty.
In this regard the committee expressed appreciation to the efforts made by the commission for its achievements in the sector.
The committee stressed the need to further enhance its relations with the Standing committee.
Referring to human resources shortage in which the Commission has been facing, the Committee requested the Commission to design a strategic plan, which it said, would enable it to address its human resource problem.
The Committee also noted that the Commission should launch activities to be able to set up Civil Service Reform Office and employ ethics officers for the Commission.
