Zalambessa reconstruction well underway

Region May 18(ENA)--Most of work on electricity and safe water supply projects, which are part of the overall reconstruction activities of infrastructure facilities ravaged by Eritrean war of aggression in Zalambessa town, has been finalized, the Gulo Mekheda Woreda administrator said.

Trial service of electricity supply has already commenced, Solomon Gebre'aregawi said on Monday.

Residents of the town has now been fetching water from fountains now that the safe water supply projects being carried out with the budgets earmarked by the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Ethiopian Red Cross Society have been finalized by most part, he indicated.

Meanwhile, work on the reconstruction of telecom, health and educational facilities are being speeded up, he said.

The 30-km Zalambessa-Adigrat road rehabilitation project is also in progress with a budget allotted by the Ethiopian Roads Authority.

Reconstruction of war ravaged residential units and governmental institutions in the town was launched with an outlay of 54 million Birr earmarked by the World Bank.
